Loree: We make so many decisions about people based on our first visual impressions. Decisions about their gender, their age, their race. We put people in these little boxes, and we put people in boxes labeled "like me"and "not like me."It tends to be, "You're like me if you look like me."michael: Loree and I look very heterosexual, but my birth certificate has an F on it. We legally can't get married. Loree: When people say, "I value marriage,"I want to ask, "Why do you value marriage? What is the goal of marriage?"I think the goal is people loving and committing to each other, building families together, having connections and support. If people thought it through to that point, they would see that heterosexual marriage and gay marriage both serve the same ends: Good things happen when people connect with each other.
